How Iron Low (One Dot) Works

Iron dots mirror wash dots: one dot is low (110°C max) for synthetics that melt — polyester "shine" (the glossy patches on cheap trousers) is literally melted flattened fibers, irreversible. Two dots (150°C) serve wool and silk (with a pressing cloth); three dots (200°C) are for cotton and linen. The iron symbol's cross means the garment needs steaming, not pressing.
